OUR STORY
LEADERS IN RENTAL & MAINTENANCE SERVICES FOR OVER 25 YEARS
2000
Founded in 2000 as Sweeney’s Mechanical Services, SMS provided maintenance, refurbishment, sales, and service support for heavy-duty earthmoving.
2007
In 2007, SMS Mining Services acquired its first rental fleet machine, a Caterpillar D7H dozer, marking the beginning of its expansion into equipment hire.
2013
In 2013, SMS Mining Services launched its first Maintenance and Repair Contract (MARC), providing flexible, outsourced mobile equipment maintenance to optimise performance and production.
2015
SMS Mining Services expanded in 2015 with a dedicated Kalgoorlie facility, providing rental and maintenance services to support mining operations across the Goldfields region.
2017
In 2017, SMS Mining Services expanded into contract mining, providing integrated solutions to better support clients with fleet, maintenance, and operational expertise.
2024
Acquired by an affiliate of Varde Partners in 2024, SMS Mining Services underwent a rebrand to refresh and re-establish its presence in the Western Australian mining industry.
2025
SMS Mining Services moves to a new facility in 2025, featuring a 5-star energy rating and operating on 100% renewable power, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability.
