COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

OUR COMMUNITY

SMS Mining Services is committed to giving back through local recruitment, charity support, and community partnerships, helping foster long-term growth and prosperity.

Supporting the communities in which we work

At SMS Mining Services, we are committed to fostering strong relationships with the communities in which we operate. We take pride in supporting local initiatives, charities, and events that make a positive impact. Our focus extends to creating opportunities for growth and development within local communities through recruitment and partnerships. With a dedication to sustainability and corporate responsibility, we also prioritise supporting local industries and businesses, ensuring our efforts contribute to the ongoing prosperity of the regions we work in.

OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

Murlpirrmarra Connection

Murlpirrmarra Connection – a not-for-profit organisation that exists to provide Aboriginal youth (aged between 12 to 18 years) in the remote communities of Wiluna, Leonora and surrounding regions in Western Australia with educational opportunities.

We are also proud sponsors of Ngala which supports parents, families and communities to enhance the wellbeing and development of children and young people.

Zero2Hero

SMS Mining Services is proud to support Zero2Hero, a leading organisation dedicated to youth mental health and suicide prevention. Through education, leadership programs, and community initiatives, Zero2Hero empowers young people to speak up about mental health and seek support when needed. By taking part in this initiative, SMS contributes to creating mentally healthy communities, ensuring young Australians have access to the resources and support they need to thrive.

WA School of Mines

The WASMA is Western Australia’s leading tertiary mining institution. As the Principal Sponsor of WASMA, we support graduates by providing employment opportunities in Mining Engineering, Geology, and Mechanical Engineering. Our program focuses on hands-on experience, mentoring, and career development, offering graduates real-world exposure to mining operations. We welcome applications from all Australian universities and encourage students to stay connected.

St Barbara's Festival

SMS is proud to take part in the annual St Barbara’s Parade, celebrating the spirit and strength of our mining community. We’ve been involved since 2017, joining a colourful mix of schools, community groups, and industry peers as we march down historic Hannan Street in Kalgoorlie. It’s a vibrant tribute to the year gone by—topped off with the Miners Memorial Service, where we come together to reflect and honour those we’ve lost in the industry.
