A CONTINUOUS FOCUS

Safety is a core value at SMS Mining Services and it takes unconditional priority. The principles of risk management and continuous improvement are fundamental to having a ‘Safe Day, Every Day’.

Our safety initiatives are on-going. We focus on people and culture, training, innovation and support this with processes and systems. We have in place strategies and plans which include:

  • Safety Management plan
  • Environmental Management plan
  • Traffic Management plan
  • ICAM investigation process.

Innovation and culture is backed by:

  •  management commitment and accountability
  • a culture of awareness and communications
  • identification of project risks
  • appropriate training to all employees
  • safe systems of work including leading software for compliance and reporting
  • the analysis and evaluation of trends with the objective of continuous improvement.

A zero harm workplace

We are committed to achieving the highest quality standard in Occupational Health and Safety. We have the view that all injuries are preventable; and if a task cannot be done safely, it should not be done. We continuously review the working environment, equipment and methods we use to further improve health and safety.

As part of our safety policy, we will actively promote and involve employees in the review and improvement of the company’s health and safety management systems; and continuously review the working environment, equipment and methods to further improve health and safety of our teams.

Safety systems

Our risk management is based on the requirements of ISO 9001 and compliant with AS4801/OHSAS 18001.
In place is the MANGO QHSE accident and incident software to enable better controls and reporting across all sites. We also have streamlined induction procedures for all sites including:

  • Tagging and isolation procedures
  • Hazard and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
  • Take 5s

Health and Wellbeing

The health and wellbeing of our people in the workplace is centre to performance, safety and commitment of most valuable asset – our people.

SMS actively promotes healthy lifestyles through a number of initiatives and wellness programs for all staff.

Delivering high quality safety outcomes

Our HSEC Management System has delivered year on year improvements in safety performance. It is a continuous journey; one that we invest and support.
