Three time winning team, RileyMotorsport, returns to the Australasian Safari in 2014

Steve Riley & John Doble are on their way to the 2014 Australasian Safari this week – starting in Perth on Friday 19th, travelling through Geraldton, Murchison, Gascoyne Junction, all the way to Exmouth, back to Carnarvon and finishing a week later in Kalbarri on Saturday 27th September.

Steve commenced racing in the Safari in the moto section in the early days of the event and competed for the first time in the auto section in 2001 with John as his navigator.  They experienced success when they won the Safari outright in their last attempts together in 2011, 2009 and 2008.

Steve has spent about two years developing this year’s car and having built a couple, Steve took this first one to the Condo 750 in April with some excellent and “fast” results.  The new V8 Holden Ute has a cross country rally spec design, is 4WD, designed with a wider track and large cross country tyres with the capacity to do 200 km/hour off road and is “…a bit of a weapon…”.

John also had an exciting time earlier this year when he won the Sydney to London Classic 30 day Marathon with his driver Geoff Olholm in the Coconut Car racing team.  A big year for the whole team.

Steve commented that he was keen to do some miles on the V8 Holden Ute and that their grand plan is to get the Aussie Ute overseas and enter some events.  Well, we think this last of the Australasian Safaris in WA with its challenging and grueling 3,500 kms of off-road endurance racing will definitely give them a run for their money.

So, with the experience of the team, including the strong service and support crew, the strength of the V8 Ute and the trick of understanding the endurance aspect of this event – let’s hope the team can bring back the winning trophy one more time.
